Basement Finishing..How Much of my Basement should I finish?

One of the biggest mistakes I see people make when finishing their basement is that they finish too much! Keep in mind that most people need storage space, so finishing the entire basement can be a big waste of money. Why spend the money finishing your basement and then wind up storing your Christmas decorations for everyone to see. A good rule of thumb is to finish about %50 to %60 of your basement. For example…lets say you live in a 2,000 square foot colonial. That means your basement is about 1,000 square feet give or take. Using the above rule, you should finish about 600 square feet of your basement. Think about it, at 600 feet your basement will be the the largest room in your house! Perfect for a play area and Home Theater with plenty of room left over. Why not finish your basement ..its the most cost effective way to make your home bigger.
